        NAMI Blue Ridge Family Alliance Meetings

 

Support group meetings, for families and friends of persons who have a serious mental illness, are held every first Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00.  Our support group meetings are held in the Board Room of the Region Ten location at 505 Old Lynchburg Rd in Charlottesville.

Directions: From I64 exit 120, take 5th Street Extended south (away from Charlottesville) for just over half a mile to Old Lynchburg Rd on the right. (The entrance to the new county office building will be on your left.)  Turn right on Old Lynchburg Rd and then right again at the first driveway.  The Board Room is in the single-story Region Ten administrative building at the rear of the property.  (Drive around behind the three-story apartment building.)

Visitors are welcome.

Ask the Doctor
Dr. Stephen Nichols is a psychiatrist at Western State Hospital, where he has extensive experience working with people with serious mental illnesses.  This is your opportunity to meet with Dr. Nichols in a small, informal setting and ask him all those tough questions that you have been struggling with.

The Haven for Homeless & Underserved
***NOTE*** This meeting will be held at The Haven on First & Market   ***NOTE***
The Haven has recently opened in a renovated historic church at 112 West Market St.  Kaki Dimock, the Haven's executive director, and Kimberly Farish-Downing, Cville Health Access executive director, will give us a tour of The Haven and explain the services provided there.

Family Members Need Help Too
We spend a lot of time thinking about our family member who struggles with a mental illness, mental health services for them, and mental illness in general.  It's time we thought a little bit about ourselves.  A moderator will lead us in a discussion of how we caregivers can help ourselves and the other healthy members of our family.

Prehistoric Prozac:  The Depression Mystery
Dr. Kelly Lambert, Chair of the Psychology Department at Randolph-Macon College, has written Lifting Depression, a book that gathers information from her teaching, neuroscience research, family, and day-to-day living to generate a unique comprehensive view of the mental disorder known as depression.  Dr. Lambert will present her findings and answer our questions about depression.
